Camins al Grau

A promising area where active construction is underway

The Camins al Grau area in Valencia is one of the most populated areas of the city, with a population of almost 65,000 people. It consists of five blocks: Ayora, Albors, La Creu del Grau, Camí Fondo and Penya-Roja.

 

Each of these quarters has its own history and was a separate settlement until the end of the 19th century. They were united by royal decree and annexed to the city of Valencia, which led to the formation of the Camins al Grau district. Residents of these neighborhoods are still proud of their past and are glad that they are part of a large city, while maintaining their unique atmosphere and traditions.

Ayora: A neighborhood with a population of about 26,000 people. In the past, there were slums here, but after an ambitious plan to demolish and build housing for the proletarians, the situation has changed. The landmark of the quarter is the palace of merchant Jose Ayora, built in 1900.

 

Albors: Famous for its vegetable market, where you can buy various products, including meat, fish and fruits. You can also buy fresh pastries at the market. Locals love this market for its assortment.

 

Penya-Roja: There is a large entertainment complex in this quarter that deserves a few days to explore it. The quarter is also known for good hotels and restaurants.

 

La Creu del Grau: This quarter is known for its Cross, although today all the ancient elements have been replaced with modern ones. In the past, fruits were grown here, but now the area is built up.

 

Kami Fondo: A block with narrow streets and many houses built in the 1960s. The population here is not too large – only 4,700 inhabitants.

 

Peña Roja: This quarter is undergoing major changes and is characterized by the active construction of modern residential complexes. There is a lot of free space for future development, which indicates future improvements in infrastructure, engineering and transport.
