Seville

One of the most charming cities in Spain

Seville is a beautiful architectural structure with cobblestone paths, antique lanterns and carriages. The fervent rhythms of flamenco sound here, as well as three UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The main sights that should not be missed include Seville Cathedral, one of the largest Gothic churches in the world with a majestic tower that previously served as a mosque minaret, as well as the Moorish Alcazar Palace with luxurious Mudejar decor and beautiful gardens. However, the real charm of this city is hidden in the small palaces and winding streets of the medieval Barrio of Santa Cruz.

Due to its historical and monumental heritage, diverse scenic and cultural spaces, as well as spring festivals (Holy Week and April Fair), the city is an object of great national and international tourism. It is the fourth most visited city in Spain after Barcelona, Madrid and Benidorm. The most characteristic type of tourism in Seville is a short-term stay in the city, about 2.5 days, which leads to overnight stays in numerous hotels in the city and the metropolitan region.

The city also has a wide network of restaurants and private facilities to facilitate exploring the city, such as horse-drawn carriages, panoramic buses, mini cruises on the Guadalquivir River and tourist cycles. In 2012, the Seville Tourism Authority introduced a new graphic image and a new motto, with which the city’s brand is developing towards a simpler, more distinctive and powerful image.

The following tourist spots are located in the vicinity of Seville:

Italiaca is an ancient Roman city located on the territory of the current municipality of Santiponce, 7 km from Seville. The cradle of the emperors Trajan and Hadrian stands out for its well-preserved amphitheater.

Carmona is a city located 33 km from Seville, distinguished by the quantity and quality of its historical and monumental heritage. Since 1963, it has been a historical and artistic complex, 18 monuments have been registered in the catalog of objects of cultural significance; and the Roman necropolis has been declared an archaeological zone.

Seville is one of the cities with the most catalogued monuments in Europe, which makes it stand out in this aspect. Among its monuments are the “Cathedral, Giralda, Alcazar and Archive of India”, which were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, as well as the “Torre del Oro or Plaza de Espana”. It has one of the largest historical centers in Spain, with an area of about 335 hectares. No less remarkable is its old town, the largest in Spain and one of the three largest in all of Europe, along with Venice and Genoa, with an area of 3.94 km2.
