In addition, the island is located near Europe, which allows you to combine holidays on the island with trips to other countries. The Cathedral of Santa Maria or La Seu, located in Palma de Mallorca, is one of the main attractions of the island. The construction of this Gothic cathedral began in the early 13th century, immediately after the liberation of Mallorca from Muslims, and lasted for about 400 years, as a result of which its appearance is a mixture of various architectural styles.

The exterior and interior of the cathedral are impressive in their detail: huge rosette windows allow light to play on the walls, sculptures, carved gates, paintings, statues, and the main altar are decorated with gold and crystals. At the beginning of the 20th century, Antonio Gaudi, one of the most famous architects of Art Nouveau, was engaged in the restoration of the cathedral.

Almudaina Palace was built in the 13th century on the model of the Arab fortress of Alcazar to protect the city from enemies. This is one of the oldest buildings on the island, which was rebuilt in the 14th century and lost its original purpose – the residence of the Spanish royal family, which owns half of the building. The other part is occupied by the National Museum. Almudaina is not just a palace, but also a complex of buildings, a garden with fountains, tapestries, carpets, paintings, frescoes, fireplaces and armor inside, and a powerful facade with four watchtowers outside. One of the towers is called the Tower of Heads, which once displayed the heads of criminals for edification.

If you want to learn more about the period of Moorish rule in Majorca, then you should visit the ruins of the Arab baths, which are located in the old town. Once upon a time they were part of the magnificent palace of one of the richest Moors who lived in this region. According to another version, the baths belonged to the Almudain Palace. These baths date back to the X-XI centuries and are surrounded by lush vegetation – the buildings are hidden among a beautiful garden.
